Life saving advice – Through the eyes of a rapist

This has been circling around on the internets, not sure who the author is or where it came from but some valuable advice indeed: Please read, share and help save a life!

Through a rapist’s eyes. A group of rapists and date rapists in prison were interviewed on what they look for in a potential victim and here are some interesting facts:

1] The first thing men look for in a potential victim is hairstyle. They are most likely to go after a woman with a ponytail, bun! , braid, or other hairstyle that can easily be grabbed. They are also likely to go after a woman with long hair. Women with short hair are not common targets.

2] The second thing men look for is clothing. They will look for women who’s clothing is easy to remove quickly. Many of them carry scissors around to cut clothing.

3] They also look for women using their cell phone, searching through their purse or doing other activities while walking because they are off guard and can be easily overpowered.

4] The number one place women are abducted from / attacked at is grocery store parking lots.

5] Number two is office parking lots/garages.

6] Number three is public restrooms.

7] The thing about these men is that they are looking to grab a woman and quickly move her to a second location where they don’t have to worry about getting caught.

8] If you put up any kind of a fight at all, they get discouraged because it only takes a minute or two for them to realize that going after you isn’t worth it because it will be time-consuming.

9] These men said they would not pick on women who have umbrellas,or other similar objects that can be used from a distance, in their hands.

10] Keys are not a deterrent because you have to get really close to the attacker to use them as a weapon. So, the idea is to convince these guys you’re not worth it.

1] If someone is following behind you on a street or in a garage or with you in an elevator or stairwell, look them in the face and ask them a question, like what time is it, or make general small talk: can’t believe it is so cold out here, we’re in for a bad winter. Now that you’ve seen their faces and could identify them in a line- up, you lose appeal as a target.

2] If someone is coming toward you, hold out your hands in front of you and yell Stop or Stay back! Most of the rapists this man talked to said they’d leave a woman alone if she yelled or showed that she would not be afraid to fight back. Again, they are looking for an EASY target.

3] If you carry pepper spray (this instructor was a huge advocate of it and carries it with him wherever he goes,) yelling I HAVE PEPPER SPRAY and holding it out will be a deterrent.

4] If someone grabs you, you can’t beat them with strength but you can do it by outsmarting them. If you are grabbed around the waist from behind, pinch the attacker either under the arm between the elbow and armpit or in the upper inner thigh – HARD. One woman in a class this guy taught told him she used the underarm pinch on a guy who was trying to date rape her and was so upset she broke through the skin and tore out muscle strands the guy needed stitches. Try pinching yourself in those places as hard as you can stand it; it really hurts.

5] After the initial hit, always go for the groin. I know from a particularly unfortunate experience that if you slap a guy’s parts it is extremely painful. You might think that you’ll anger the guy and make him want to hurt you more, but the thing these rapists told our instructor is that they want a woman who will not cause him a lot of trouble. Start causing trouble, and he’s out of there.

6] When the guy puts his hands up to you, grab his first two fingers and bend them back as far as possible with as much pressure pushing down on them as possible. The instructor did it to me without using much pressure, and I ended up on my knees and both knuckles cracked audibly.

7] Of course the things we always hear still apply. Always be aware of your surroundings, take someone with you if you can and if you see any odd behavior, don’t dismiss it, go with your instincts. You may feel little silly at the time, but you’d feel much worse if the guy really was trouble.

1. Tip from Tae Kwon Do: The elbow is the strongest point on your body. If you are close enough to use it, do it.

2. Learned this from a tourist guide to New Orleans : if a robber asks for your wallet and/or purse, DO NOT HAND IT TO HIM. Toss it away from you…. chances are that he is more interested in your wallet and/or purse than you and he will go for the wallet/purse. RUN LIKE MAD IN THE OTHER DIRECTION!

3. If you are ever thrown into the trunk of a car: Kick out the back tail lights and stick your arm out the hole and start waving like crazy. The driver won’t see you but everybody else will. This has saved lives.

4. Women have a tendency to get into their cars after shopping, eating, working, etc., and just sit (doing their checkbook, or making a list, etc. DON’T DO THIS! The predator will be watching you, and this is the perfect opportunity for him to get in on the passenger side, put a gun to your head, and tell you where to go. AS SOON AS YOU CLOSE the DOORS , LEAVE.

5. A few notes about getting into your car in a parking lot, or parking garage:

a. Be aware: look around your car as someone may be hiding at the passenger side , peek into your car, inside the passenger side floor, and in the back seat. ( DO THIS TOO BEFORE RIDING A TAXI CAB) .

b. If you are parked next to a big van, enter your car from the passenger door. Most serial killers attack their victims by pulling them into their vans while the women are attempting to get into their cars.

c. Look at the car parked on the driver’s side of your vehicle, and the passenger side. If a male is sitting alone in the seat nearest your car, you may want to walk back into the mall, or work, and get a guard/policeman to walk you back out. IT IS ALWAYS BETTER TO BE SAFE THAN SORRY. (And better paranoid than dead.)

6. ALWAYS take the elevator instead of the stairs. (Stairwells are horrible places to be alone and the perfect crime spot).

7. If the predator has a gun and you are not under his control, ALWAYS RUN! The predator will only hit you (a running target) 4 in 100 times; And even then, it most likely WILL NOT be a vital organ. RUN!

8. As women, we are always trying to be sympathetic: STOP IT! It may get you raped, or killed. Ted Bundy, the serial killer, was a good-looking, well educated man, who ALWAYS played on the sympathies of unsuspecting women. He walked with a cane, or a limp, and often asked “for help” into his vehicle or with his vehicle, which is when he abducted his next victim.

Send this to any woman you know that may need to be reminded that the world we live in has a lot of crazies in it and it’s better safe than sorry.

In ending, some things I want to add:

Remember that little motto of ours? That line that could save your life? "If somebody messes with me, they will GET bitten!"

Firstly it’s an attitude you must have to survive a situation. Then the word GET is an acronym for Groin, Eyes, Throat. The three primary targets on a human body in order of vulnerability. The bitten is also to help you remember that biting someone is a last resort weapon and can save your life, but do try not to draw blood and bite over clothing, you never know where they have been!

The nose is also a very soft target to attack and great for combos! Nose, groin, eyes and then groin again! No rules saying you are not allowed to hit the same area twice. Bruce Lee used to say that he found you can actually hit the same area twice in a row before someone will put up their guard to that area!

Lastly, remember pepper spray! Its an awesome non lethal weapon, use it!

KiNECT Personal Protection Program

A couple of weeks ago I started a new venture, corporate personal protection programs, tailored to suit your personal needs. I was approached by a company who had a specific requirement for their staff. Utilizing parts of my KiNECT Program I worked out a course for them and it went very well. We have had about 22 of their staff members attended the course and 5 still need to finish it. It was great fun and everyone learned so much.

If you are interested in a solution for your corporate environment or even looking for a good team building experience please contact me to setup a meeting to discuss your needs.

Zone Fitness 22 September

We looked at safely handling a fall to the ground, on your bum backwards. The most important thing is to exhale all your breath before impacting the ground and never break the fall with your hand first. they will break! We also looked at the forward roll, briefly.

Then more grabs, body grabs from behind and the neck grab and how to escape from a neck grab where you are held by an attacker with two arms around your neck. Bring arm up as if you are Superman, turn body sideways and drop elbow, trap hands and strike groin and face.

Body grab – if you are picked up, start kicking wildly to make yourself heavier and more difficult to carry. Grab pinky and break, grab groin and twist, stamp on feet, headbutt backwards.

Hello guys or rather ladies,

Sorry for the extreme late update but my life has been a bit busy with some ups and downs. Ok so back to what we did in class. we looked at various striking methods and where they can be used on the body.

We looked at:

Palmheel strike: Flat of palm, fingers back and out of the way. Nose, jaw, groin, wrists (when someone grabs you) anywhere on the head, not for the body

Elbow strike: Face, nose, chest, ribs, arms, wrists, almost anywhere will work, except on bigger bones.

Flat hand strike: Also ridge hand strike, either pinky side or thumb side keeping your hand flat and straight, throat, neck and groin are the only targets.

Thumb palm strike: Part palm with thumb sticking out to side, thumb goes into eye end palm on side of head towards ear, palm will connect with cheekbone

Loose fingers slap: Eyes and groin only, a very fast strike

Knee: Anywhere your knee can reach to strike, groin is perfect for knee

Headbutt: using the area from just above your eyebrows to just past your hairline, or you can use the back of your head if you are held from behind

Bite: Anywhere on the body! Only in emergency, try to bite over clothing to minimize the possible spread of diseases

That’s it for today, ciao!

Hello Ladies!

Ok this week we looked at using clothing as a weapon or means of distraction, various grabs, I talked about pepper spray again and why it’s a great weapon.

So you have to be completely naked to have an excuse that you could not find a suitable weapon to help you in a situation. hand bag with a weight it in, buy a 1kg or 1.5 kg weight and keep it in your bag. I have heard of an old lady who used to walk around with a brick in her handbag! Imagine how hard she could hit swinging that bad boy around, and the brick wont set off any alarms anywhere, alternatively if a brick is a bit heavy, get a nice smooth river stone. Your handbag can be a great clubbing/impact weapon and not clubbing as in going out dancing for the night for that girls usually carry a small clutch bag. Pepper spray, get SWAT or C7 direct stream, 100ml bottle. your top or your shirt, items of clothing that can quickly be removed can be used as a weapon or to slow someone down. a belt with a hefty belt buckle can be a wild swinging weapon. It might be enough to let the attacker think twice about taking you on, remember our motto, if you mess with me youre gonna GET Bitten! on the nose! High heel shoes, the heels can be used for stabbing, a jacket can be thrown into someone face while you the groin to then escape.

then we looked at hair grabs, from the front and from the back, if the attacker pulls you down hard, turn and go down quickly as to not loose your balance. Get a good groin strike in. When pulled from behind, grab attackers hands, turn and step back and down quickly to deliver a groin strike. We then looked at the throat grab. We will look at more grabs this Thursday, also try and think of some situations, maybe one that might have been in and we can discuss solutions.

Remember that in a situation you have to react to what’s happening, you have to improvise as no two situations will have the same outcome and everyone will react differently to what you are doing. There are not guarantees, but you have a choice, fight back or become a victim and live in fear for years and years afterwards.

Thursday the 1st of Sept at Zone Fitness

Hi guys, hope your’e all staying safe!

SO on THursday we looked at using a knife or edged weapon (screwdriver, ice pick etc) to protect yourself, typically in a situation where you find yourself home alone. A knife can be a great weapon or at least a good deterrent. BUT PLEASE remember, a knife is very very dangerous. You need many hours of practise before you can use in a real life situation.

So we also looked ways stabbing and slashing with a knife, 6 basic direction, think of a compass and the directions on a compass. We looked at the standard grip and keeping your wrist fluid and quick. Remember to use your footwork, the quick shuffle forward or backwards. If your hands is grabbed, immediately go for an eye or kick to groin.

stay safe! ciao

Thursday 25 August – part 2

Hi guys, so Thursdays class was part two of the rape escape scenario.

Those who do not know what the rape escape refers to, it’s a situation where you are forced to the ground and an attacker is sitting on you, now he may or may not have intentions to sexually assault you. So essentially you are dealing with someone who has taken you to the ground, is sitting on top of you or in between your legs.

Wait for an opportunity to strike, then strike hard and fast, groin, to get his eyes in range, pluck or scratch they eye then grab the groin as a handle to get him off you. (remember, grab and twist with a full hand) Forget about trying to punch him, at the bottom you are at a disadvantage, go for the soft targets. If he is busy protecting his groin and his eye at the same time then nothing is really happening to you in a threatening way.

When he is in between your legs, a poke in the eye will send him backwards which will give the chance to start bicycle kicking him in the face body and groin area. Get up quick and run away.

See you guys soon!

Zone Fitness Personal Protection class on 18 August 2011

Hello, guys, sorry for the late update!

Ok so in class we did the following:

Looked at how to fall backwards safely. Remember to expel all your air, this is the most crucial thing to remember. Further, use your bum to cushion the fall then your hands to help spread the weight of your body while keeping your back as round as possible and tuck your chin in close to your chest. Try not to stick your tongue out while falling 🙂

On the ground, sit upright on your bum support yourself with your hands on the ground and use your legs to kick at the attacker, you can also spin around on your bum if the attacker comes in at a different angle.

Then we looked at options for when an attacker sits on top of your stomach. If he is holding your wrists calm down and relax, wait for him to take his pants off them attack and damage the groin, when he bends down or gets in range attack and gauge out an eye, punch him in the neck and then hip thrust him off you. Follow up with a knee or smash the groin with your fist or elbow, get up and away. Remember the philosophy, "If someone messes with me they will GET bitten!" Groin, Eyes, Throat and lastly biting! There was a woman who recently survived a rape attack by biting the guys tongue clean off! Very bloody and brutal but she survived and waited when he was kissing her with his tongue. She cleverly waited for her change to attack, but when she did attack it was hard and sudden and effective!

Next class is a continuation of the rape escape. Ciao!

Thursday the 11th at Zone Fitness

Hi guys, ok a quick rundown of what we did last night:

Pepper spray, how to hold it, how to spray. Get SWAT direct stream. Keep it in your hand on the way to your car or when driving around have it nearby and ready, like on your lap. Keep handbag and cell phone away from stray eyes, under your legs or in the boot. NOT on the seat next to you.

When someone grabs your wrists, keep turning in circles to escape, add a kick to the groin to distract attacker. If he grabs your wrist NOT holding the pepper spray can, use the can to smash his hand, kick shin or groin, spray in face and then escape.

We also did some kicking practise, snap kick to the groin, in ready stance from back foot and rear foot.
